IF YOU ‘LOVE SEA FOOD’ THEN THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY NOT TO BE MISSED!
As we all know, when it comes to seafood in Port Stephens both residents and visitors alike are spoilt for choice. From prawns, fish and oysters to crabs, lobsters, and shellfish the mouth-watering quality and range of seafood is unique to this region, the envy of other regions throughout the state.
With the overwhelming success of last year’s inaugural month-long celebration, we are pleased to announce that Love Sea Food event will return this August, thanks in part to the successful funding grant through Destination NSW.
Among the highlights made possible by the increased funding will be a gala degustation dinner; a major weekend including a family friendly Fun and Fish Zone; a Fish to Dish Expo with local providores for passionate foodies; seafood masterclasses, hands-on seafood preparation experiences; Lunch and Learn classes, educational experiences with industry experts; dedicated seafood cruises and much more.
The Love Sea Food event program has been designed to ensure maximum participation by the local business community and increased opportunities for visitors to experience our local cuisine. This event is not only a great way to showcase our local seafood, but to also drive overnight visitation to Port Stephens during the traditionally low season month of August.
As part of this, we are fortunate to have our recently appointed Port Stephens Events Coordinator, Danella Bennett managing this year’s Love Sea Food event on behalf of Destination Port Stephens and the organising committee. Danella will be in touch with more details on the event, however, in the meantime, we need to hear from those businesses keen to participate in this year’s Love Sea Food event. (For more information you can contact Danella on email@example.com anytime)
Opportunities available for participation include:
Seafood Lunch Specials
To encourage visitors and residents to experience our quality Port Stephens seafood cuisine, local restaurants/cafes are asked to provide a mid-week lunch special during the month which features fresh local Port Stephens seafood. From a seafood bisque through to a warm seared Tuna salad…there are lots of ways to feature the incredible range of seafood available in Port Stephens. As part of the event, we will be promoting these lunch specials to locals and visitors both online and via traditional media, PR, websites and of course in our Love Sea Food brochures. Each participating venue will also receive promotional flags and signage to use onsite to encourage diners during August.
- Specials must be available mid-week (Monday – Thursday) and include beverage
- There is no set price however, we would encourage participants to package the lunch as a two course $35 / $45 or $55 offer.
‘Trawler to Table’ Signature Series
Local restaurants are invited to host a ‘meet the maker’ style lunch/dinner as part of our “Trawler to Table” signature series. These lunches/dinners are about local restaurants work alongside local seafood personalities to create a special menu for the occasion. The lunch/dinner is then co-host by the local personality, during which they would tell their story and the tales of their life within the local seafood industry. These are in the style of traditional winemakers dinners, however, instead of featuring the winemaker, we feature the fisherperson. For those keen to participate, Destination Port Stephens can assist in putting you in contact with local fishers. DPS will also promote the Trawler to Table signature series locally and to key target markets including Sydney, Newcastle, and the Central West areas of NSW. Ideally, we will package these lunches/dinners with accommodation to encourage visitors from outside of Port Stephens.
- Dinners should feature a local fishing identity or fisher.
- We recommend a minimum 3-course lunch/dinner
- We encourage you to package the dinner with accommodation options to encourage visitation from outside of Port Stephens
For businesses keen to participate but not exactly sure how, where or when – there will be the Fish to Dish Expo, Fish & Fun Zone, Masterclasses and Lunch & Learn activities happening throughout August. So if you think that you would like to be part of any of this activity, just let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be in touch to discuss further.
To register your interest in participating in these Love Sea Food events, we ask you to complete the expression of interest form by Wednesday 28th June.
