During the past fortnight, there has been a considerable amount of work taking place behind the scenes in order secure an opportunity that has been provided to Port Stephens. This opportunity is for Port Stephens to host this year’s NSW Surfing Woman’s QS3000, Men’s QS1000 and Pro Junior from 2 to 5 November 2017.
As I’m sure you will agree this is an amazing opportunity for Port Stephens to be considered above other premium surfing destinations up and down the coast. To promote Port Stephens on an international level working alongside the Surfing NSW, Surfing Australian, World Surfing League (WSL) and other major supporters of the event will have nothing but a positive impact. The media coverage that comes with this event let along the economic impact will be incredible.

Organisers are anticipating close to 400 high profile competitors from over 15 countries. The programming of the QS events, will see series one held on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria the week prior to the Port Stephens Pro Event, so competitors number are expected to be strong with close to 400 competing given accessibility from Melbourne to Port Stephens via Newcastle Airport.
A local steering committee has been formed to work with Surfing NSW to organise this event and are currently assisting with the securing event partners. Below is a copy of the Event Partnership Proposal for you to review and we would strongly encourage the entire business community to consider investing, be it cash or in-kind, in this event as this will become a flagship event for our destination.
