Public exhibition of the Tomaree National Park Plan of Management Draft Amendment – Coastal Walk and Visitor Experience Improvements
Opportunity for industry to review and comment by 16 September 2019
The Tomaree National Park Plan of Management Draft Amendment has been prepared and is being exhibited in accordance with the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974.
Tomaree National Park is located at Port Stephens and is managed by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), part of the Department of Planning Infrastructure and Environment.
The draft amendment is accompanied by the Draft Tomaree Coastal Walk Strategy. People are invited to comment on both proposals.
A masterplan is also being developed for the project and will provide further detail about the walk and associated facilities. People will also have the opportunity to view and comment on the draft masterplan and the environmental impact assessment prior to development approval.
While the Coastal Walk Strategy and the masterplan may be refined after exhibition of the draft amendment, they will remain consistent with the amended Tomaree National Park Plan of Management.
Key issues in the amendment that may be of interest include:
- allowing for development of the Tomaree Coastal Walk, an iconic 20-kilometre walk between Tomaree Headland and Birubi Point, with upgrades to some existing walking tracks and development of new sections of track
- proposed development of support facilities to enhance the visitor experience along the walk, including upgrading of carparks, new amenities blocks, viewing platforms, signage and interpretation
- updating the plan of management with regard to declaration of Birubi Point Aboriginal Place and recognition of the Worimi Conservation Lands
Public exhibition for the proposed amendment and draft strategy is from 2 August until 16 September 2019. You are invited to comment on the Tomaree National Park Plan of Management – Draft Amendment – Coastal Walk and Visitor Experience Improvements by sending a written submission during this time.
