NEWCASTLE BUSINESS SCHOOL – INDUSTRY PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITY
Port Stephens Council has been working with the University of Newcastle’s Business School on strategies with the aim to retain students in the area after their studies. Industry Placement presents a great opportunity to have a bright young brain, with a fresh set of eyes in your business to lend a hand with projects.
Many of the degrees at Newcastle Business School (which includes Tourism, Marketing, Business, Commerce, Human Resources etc.) now include an option for students to undertake 100 hours of work placement as part of their course.

PORT STEPHENS SMALL BUSINESS BIG IMPACT VIRTUAL EXPO – TUESDAY, 27 OCTOBER 2020 – SAVE THE DATE
The ‘Small Business – Big Impact Expo is a virtual event that will take place on Tuesday, 27 October 2020. This event is jointly presented and proudly supported by Port Stephens Council, Tomaree Business Chamber, Port Stephens Women In Business, Destination Port Stephens and Spark CoWork.
The intent of the event is to provide a platform for our small business community to come together virtually to access content, training and resources that will assist in post COVID recovery and stimulate growth. Sessions are designed to deliver a real benefit and strategies attendees can put into action.
If you are a small business in Port Stephens, we are interested in your feedback whilst we plan and finalise our program and content delivery. We would appreciate you answering this short survey of six questions by Friday, 25th September. Click here for survey.
NELSON BAY SMART PARKING
There’s a smarter way to park and its coming to Nelson Bay soon. New technology using number plate recognition and digital signage will make finding a car park easier and simpler. A smart parking mobile app will be available to locate available car spaces in real time and pay online. Coin and card options will still be availablePark fee permit scheme: A park free scheme for residents and ratepayers and those that work in the town centre will be introduced. Port Stephens Council are currently finalising the process to sign up for the permit system to make it as easy as possible.
To make the transition to smart parking as smooth as possible, a pop up shop will be opening to answer your smart parking questions and help you sign up to the park free scheme. This will be located at 2/26-28 Donald Street, Nelson Bay from Wednesday 30 September to 31 December 2020. During the school holidays it will be open Wednesday to Friday and after the school holidays from Monday 12 October 2020 from Monday to Friday.

COVID SAFE CHECK-IN WITH SERVICE NSW APP
To help with contactless customer record keeping, Service NSW have created a unique, free QR code for business that customers can scan when they visit. Customers will need to have the Service NSW app installed on their mobile to record their visit.It makes the check in seamless by sending accurate customer information directly to Service NSW. This means the data does not have to be stored by the business and it is readily available for NSW Health to access if it becomes necessary.
COVID Safe Check-in is available to all businesses in NSW and is provided as part of the COVID Safe registration pack. Businesses who have already registered will be emailed their unique QR code. CLICK HERE for more information.
PANDEMIC INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL TRAINING
The NSW and Commonwealth Governments have committed a combined $25.5 million to fund fee-free nationally accredited infection prevention and control training. The training will provide workers with the skills they need to better identify and respond to COVID-19 risks in the workplace, while supporting customer confidence to re-engage with businesses.Training is available across NSW and is delivered by approved Smart and Skilled training providers. PANDEMIC LEAVE FOR NSW
The Prime Minister last week announced that the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment arrangements include New South Wales. The payment means people who have to isolate because of coronavirus may be eligible for $1,500 if they have used up sick leave entitlements and have to take time off work. Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia previously agreed to the arrangements, which are jointly funded by the Commonwealth and jurisdictions.
